Issue Zero: what this is, and what it isn't
There are 29,314 SaaS companies in the UK (Tracxn, Aug 2026). Almost none of the writing aimed at the people running them is written for the UK. It is written for a company in San Francisco raising a Series A from Sequoia, and then translated for everyone else by accident.
This is the first issue, and it makes no claims about itself. No subscriber count, no archive behind it, no testimonials. Just a description of what lands in your inbox from next Tuesday.
What Saaspreneur is
A weekly briefing for founders and operators building software companies in the UK and Ireland. Every Tuesday, five things:
- The round-up. Who raised, who is hiring, who is quietly in trouble. UK and Ireland only, five to seven items, each with a real take rather than a rewritten press release.
- One teardown. A UK SaaS company pulled apart. What they tried, what worked, what it cost, and what is worth copying.
- One tactic. Something you can run this week, with the UK specifics that break it elsewhere: VAT, hiring, R&D claims, SEIS and EIS, selling into the NHS or the public sector.
- The tooling. AI and software worth the time, filtered by someone who ships with it daily. Not the launch announcements you have already seen.
- The build log. An honest running account of one SaaS being built right now, with real numbers in it, including the ones that are going badly.
What it isn’t
It is not a funding-headlines feed with the analysis removed. It is not founder-mindset content. It is not general indie-hacking advice with a Union Jack on it.
It is also not written from inside a UK company that has already won. It is reported, curated, and interviewed together by someone watching the same market you are working in, and asking the people who are further ahead how they actually did it. Where a number appears, it will carry a named source, a date, and a link that loads and contains that number. Where something is opinion, it will read as opinion.
The market this covers
The UK is the third-largest SaaS ecosystem in the world, behind the United States and India, with $69.4B raised over the last ten years (Tracxn, Aug 2026). That is a large market with very little press written for the operators inside it. This is an attempt to fix a small part of that, one Tuesday at a time.
One thing that would help
Reply to the welcome email and say what you are building. Every reply gets read, and it decides what gets covered first. If there is a UK SaaS company you want taken apart in the teardown slot, name it. That is the section people ask for most.
Issue one lands Tuesday.
